After surviving my immersion in NaNo for the past 5 Novembers, my husband has decided to join me. This should be fun. All our kids are either out of the nest and/or in college, so I think it will work out.

We went out for dinner last night and all we talked about was our novels. ;)

Well, it's looking less likely for me right now. I haven't looked at my book in several days due to coming down with some kind of miserable bug.

Ugh, Andrea. Sorry you're sick. Feel better soon!

Before I start NaNo, I have to get my computer room prepared!  It's like spring cleaning for the rest of the house (uhh...yeah), but it's just for that poor widdle baby novel that needs to be birthed.

Do you hear the swish of my broom as I chase those pesky dust bunnies and their friends, the procrastination fairies, out the door?

Can you hear my file cabinets sighing, "At last...relief!"

Do you feel the rattle and coughing of my shredder?

I think I'm having a pre-birth nesting experience.

What's everyone's projected goal for daily words?

Well, if you write every day you have to hit 1,667 in order to make it to 50K in 30 days. I'm going to try for 2000 words for the first few days, and then a bit more on the weekend, to get a good start.

I hate saying exactly what I'm going to do because if I don't make the word count I've posted, I'll feel like moving to Australia with Alexander. :paperbag

Me too!
I thought we had to write so many words per day.  Didn't know we could do more or less on different days.  This may be dangerous for me.    :batman

Hmmm... Thinking about it a bit.  Conferences are out of the way. The grading period is over. I'm not hosting Thanksgiving this year. I would have to do a modified Nano, maybe 25,000 instead of 50,000. Hmmm...

Bribed my son with access to his sister's i-tunes songs if he'd set my desktop up in the spare room, now I have internet access on it and I'm all set! Can't believe I've been using my laptop since June when we moved, I prefer to do writing on the desktop. Can't wait for this month to be over!  :oncomputer :oncomputer :oncomputer

Christy: Search the person's username and when their profile comes up, there's a tiny "add as buddy" to click on.

But does anyone know how to view those who have added you? I can find my buddies, but want to add those following me, but can't find it this year. I know I knew how to do it last year!  :thankyou

Yes, PJV, I saw you as my buddy down below. It's all so slow so I was getting frustrated. And I'm having trouble figuing out how to make my pictures small enough. Anyone know how to do that?

I'm in! I haven't seriously tried it since 2009, but I wrote (finished, I should say since I'd started others) my first book that year thanks to the support of the NaNo thread here. Can't wait to finally get my YA Sci-fi out of my head and into a draft!

I'm valeriekwrites there.

Okay, decision made. I'm in! Although I will be cheating a bit; as I let my current WIP rest, I want to write a trilogy of short stories I've been fooling around with since January. I'm very bad at finishing things, so I am looking forward to ending November with three completed short stories (and they might even be good!). So my word goal is 30k (10k each) instead of 50k. If I write more, yay, but this way I feel like I'm setting myself up for success (that's just 1k a day--easy!).

I'm stirlingbennett over there. I think. I'm currently having password issues, so...I think stirlingbennett is my username.

Looking forward to the mayhem!
I'm looking for a dare-to-be-great situation.

The nice thing about NaNoWriMo is that you can make it whaever you need it to be.  Last year I did the 50,000 words and it taught me to write without judging.  Very useful for writing my first draft.  This year I'm letting it teach me how to add muscles and heart to the skeleton of my first draft, so I've set a time goal (so many hours per week) rather than a word goal.

Once you get over the feeling that you HAVE to write a 50,000 word novel  from scratch (yes, I'm complusive about following the 'rules', but I'm trying to overcome it) it's a powerful tool.   I know I could do all that by myself without the structure of NaNoWriMo, but would I?

I'm totally in. Feeling a bit weird since I haven't posted here since last spring (and everything is different! Egad!), but I've missed y'all and the Fast Drafters! Will probably try to get a little more caught up here before I confess my projected word counts, or the extent of my "in-ness..." although if anyone remembers Helene's NaNo last year, that's sort of my mad inspiration.  :grin

Ecb! You're alive!!

I'm "in." Signed up on the Nano board (as olmue), but I'm really just using it for my own purposes of finishing a draft by the end of the year. Um...because I'm still working on the same book from the fast drafting thread.  :paperbag  :hiding But if I have 35K right now, that means I'm only 15K from a real-sized book, right?

Flippery.  Just over nine hours to go until the start of NaNoWriMo and the bloody laptop has died.  Am sorely tempted to dash out tonight and acquire another, actually.

Sorry to hear about your computer, Iris. ecb, glad you're back!

Sadly, I have to back out of NaNo this year, right on its eve. My elderly father, who is living nearby but alone, is not doing well. My mom died this summer and now he's failing. His cherished dog may have to be put down. Plus the poor man still has no electricity from the hurricane. Just after I decided I had to set aside NaNoWriMo this year, my sister asked me to please not participate because she needs me to be more available than I would be if I was trying to write a novel.

Family comes first. I will be cheering all of you on from the sidelines, though! Go, everybody! :goodluck

I'm sorry, JFriday.  Of course family must come first, but how disappointing for you.

Um... I don't suppose that anyone has a particular knowledge of antique humane horse-killers, have they?
