NaNoWriMo 2012
« on: October 17, 2012, 01:37 PM »
Ok, just signed up for NaNoWriMo. Who's in? Could really use some company as I try to get this draft down. Too many distractions in my life right now, and I'd really love the focus of a concentrated bit of time.  :ceilingdance

In, albeit tentatively.  I have the barest threads of a YA plot featuring the abandonment of adolescent twins following a nuclear disaster, with dressage horses and consensual incest.  I'll use the month to churn out 50k and hope that it can be refined at a later date!

*waves hand*

I'm in! (I'm andregirl over there, like I used to be here).

This is the first year I'm doing some plotting before things get started. I've showed my husband and a close friend my idea and they loved it and said "write it!" So ... I am. I think the idea has potential, so I'm using NaNoWriMo as an excuse to try my hand at writing a quick first draft and then, if I like, eventually submitting it.

My short synopsis description from the NaNoWriMo website:

Quote
Hawaii isn't paradise for Emily; her friends live on the mainland and she is stuck managing her uncle's rental property. She vows to leave ASAP, but a brave little girl and an infuriatingly laid-back boy create a changing tide in her heart. Can she resist its pull?

I bought my t-shirt. I've got my laptop at the ready. I've got a decent plot bashed out. I'm psyched!

What's your NaNoWriMo user ID? I'll add you as a writing buddy.

I'm in! I'm chicklit over there, too. I think I'll take the 'no plot, no problem' approach again this year and not map anything out. But I have some characters that have been invading my brainspace for a while and I'm looking forward to learning more about them.

This is my fifth year in a row of doing Nano. This is the first year I've tried to take a family vacation in the midst of it, though. A little scared about how that's going to go.

I'm denisej over there.

I did it for the first time last year. This year, I'm helping my 4th grade daughter and a group of other kids at her school do it. I'm very excited.

Wouldn't miss it! I'm in for my 6th year, planning to work on a middle grade ghost story. But first I must press on and finish some revisions.

I'm in the middle of revisions, too. I'm determined to get a final draft of my current WIP ready for a second round of critiques before Nov 1, so I can focus on NaNoWriMo.

I really need to get out of my revision hole and write! I think I'll head over and sign up. Not sure which idea to work on...

*sighs*  Yeah, I think I'll do it.  I've used it to finish up things the past few years, but this year, I think I'm going to actually attempt the real thing (which I've done twice before, so at least I know it's possible, ha).  I think I'm Andracill over there too (but I'll have to check to be sure, hehe).

It says you have to upload your novel to verify your word count... doesn't that make it count as "previously published" then? That is, wouldn't you run into the same problem you'd have if you posted your writing to this message board, as far having it no longer be acceptable to publishers? Or do they not actually post the novel to the web when you upload it?

You upload it, but then it disappears. They don't save it. Also, you can change things if you save as an upload file and do a find/replace for words or even letters to scramble it. It just counts the words, that's all.

And yes, t-shirts!

*waves from lurker island* I'm participating as well. I've never actually made it beyond 20K in the 3 (4 counting camp nano) times I've attempted to participate, but there's a first time for everything. Or so I'm hoping.

just signed up! I'm jfriday over there. I'll have to spend some time poking around the site.

I've been working on different revisions for so long, it'll be fun to start something completely from scratch. I'm not even sure what it will be yet, but I have a couple of ideas.

I wrote 50K in 5 weeks last summer on my latest YA, but that was when school was out. This will be interesting...

Good luck, Andrea, hope we both get finished in time!

Forgot to say, I'm donne.r on the NaNo forums. I'm on  a mission to keep at least one middle grade thread on page 1 of the Young Adult and Children's Lit forum. There are lots of YA writers on NaNo, and some people who are writing for younger kids think they're the only ones.

And  :applause for the first-timers! Welcome aboard.

I signed up!  I'm working on an outline and hoping to have my other shiny novel ready to submit by months end.  I'm a little uncomfortable posting any of the novel I'll be writing.  Do we have to do that?  I'm May-June over there in honor of my soon to be WIP.  Excited!

I haven't signed up yet, but I'm in!  I did it last year for the first time (and got the T-shirt).  Last year I wrote a whole novel from scratch and the process of writing without judging or going over and revising was very freeing!  This year I plan to revise my middle grade noir mystery.  I say 'revise' but there are so many changes it's almost like starting from scratch.

I'm going to give it an unofficial try. I should be ready to start a first draft by November, but I'm 99.9% certain I won't have enough time in November to actually finish the whole thing. Especially if I spend any time signing up, looking through, or hanging out on the NaNoWriMo site. ;-) But I'm going to set a goal to try to work on it at least 1 hour per day for the whole month, which should get me 1/3 of the way done.

Well, it's looking less likely for me right now. I haven't looked at my book in several days due to coming down with some kind of miserable bug. Even checking my email, etc. this morning hurts my eyes/headache. I hope to get some writing/revising in done today, but I'm going to need to put the laptop away for a bit to rest now ... and I've only been up for an hour and a half! *sigh*

Hope things are going much better for you, Ruth!

Hi Sona!

I'm in, too. Riding the post-Rutgers adrenaline rush and doing Nanowrimo and PiBoldMo. Expect to crash, hard, but I'm going to give it a try.

good luck one and all! I did this two years ago and set myself a 30K goal for my MG and that worked out well, especially as Turkey day tends to interfere-
