What do YOU put on your book's FB page?
« on: October 09, 2012, 12:06 PM »
I've had a FB page for my UNFAIRY TALE tween series for a while now, and I've been playing around with what kinds of things to put on it. I want it to be active but not obnoxious, informative yet fun.

(Here's a link if you're interested: http://www.facebook.com/UnFairyTaleLife)

I'd love to hear what kinds of things other people put on their pages. I've looked around at other book pages, and the ones that seem to get the most traffic have been created by the book's publisher. Maybe that's because they do a lot of contests and things?

Any tips or ideas would be great!

VAMPIRINA's illustrator LeUyen Pham and I made ours together.  She put up some sketches and some of her news (like being selected for the Society of Illustrators show) and I put up book launch pics, reviews, photographs of events, etc.

It's pretty low-key. I don't want to bombard people.  I think (though I'm not sure) that most of the people who follow it are either her friends or my friends.

I liked it! I have an author page and tend to put reviews, news, and fun mermaid/ocean related pictures I might find there so it's not all bookish all the time. I try to treat it like the reverse of my personal profile: 75% book/ 25% fun-personal on my author page since those who've joined it probably did to find out more about my books as opposed to my personal profile where I share 75% fun-personal/ 25% book news.

I occasionally cross-post from my author page to my personal profile to get a bit of cross pollination but have not quite figured out how to attract more people to my author page without being too obnoxious about it.

And...at the risk of being obnoxious...here's me: https://www.facebook.com/heleneboudreaubooks  :)

Anne Marie, I love that you and your illustrator share a page. And I feel the same way about not bombarding people.

Helene, I've been following your page for a while and it's great! You stick to that 75/25 rule really well. You've inspired me to incorporate some more fairy tale posts. Hopefully people will enjoy them.

So far I'm just cross posting some of the art I'm posting to my blog on my FB page.

http://www.facebook.com/Cindercast

For now it just makes it easy for other FB people to 'like' it and share any art they like with their family or friends.  I imagine once my story is further along, or if I ever finish it I can use it to answer questions or try and keep people engaged.
