I'm sure many of you have followed the issue of whitewashing YA covers that's been hashed and re-hashed ad-nauseum. I did too, and felt quite helpless about the whole situation.

Last week I decided to post some recent/forthcoming covers of color on a Pintrest board--just to visualize what such a collection might look like. So far, I'm (mostly) liking what I see! The count's up to forty five and now I'm wondering if I can possibly get up to a HUNDRED!

I know there are other covers out there, so if you have suggestions please let me know. Can't think of a better resource to hunt them down than BBers!

Also, if it's been done somewhere do let me know--no point reinventing the wheel!!!

Mike, J. Ro, I should go back and weed out the MG covers--it's hard to decide what to include with some of the older MG books. I'll do it later this week, when I've more time. But I'll start a board with MG covers of color too. I think they have much more diverse covers for younger readers apparently, so it should be easier to get to a 100 with them. And, yes, GEEKS, GIRLS, AND SECRET IDENTITIES will definitely star on that board!!!

Would FLYGIRL count? The MC is black but the whole plot hinges on the fact that she can pass as white, so the girl on the front doesn't look clearly one race or the other.

How about Irises by Fransico X. Stork? The cover just shows the back of the girls, but they're hispanic in the book and I think the conveys that.

I do think I have many of the suggestions already, but I'll wade through them tomorrow and add in the ones I don't have. Have to cull out the MG ones anyway...

I'm not sure what exactly I was hoping to find at the end of this cut and paste frenzy, but looking at that board sure makes me HAPPY, and optimistic, and generally pleased that so many editors, art directors, publishers, marketing peeps or whoever managed to put books out there that reflect the POC inside the covers.

That wasn't too smart of me! Thanks for the heads up, literaticat. My daughter has been home with a cold since Sunday so I've not been here much, but I've been updating covers sporadically based on all the new suggestions.
