Working on an updated website
« on: September 07, 2012, 09:04 AM »
Hello.

My website was needing a facelift so I've been working on a newer site with a template. I'll add my sketchbook a bit later. The profile pic' is a bit of a mystery as I like my Cousin IT picture at this point . . . thinking of Photoshopping some sunglasses before I change it to a head shot. But maybe I'll keep it.  ::) If there are loading problems, could you let me know? I may try another template, just checking this one out first.

The pics were a little slow to load - even on DSL - but your paintings are beautiful! Love those happy dogs.

I didn't have any trouble loading all the images. Love those dancing dogs! I also really like your color palette.

Thank you so much for checking it out and responding about the load times. I checked it out on my computer at work, but the browser is so outdated it wouldn't even start to load so I was concerned.

J.Ro . . . thank you.  Traci, thank you too . . . I've seen your work and it's great. Mirka . . . Stunning . . . I like.  :flower Artie . . . hugs and many thanks. :chickendance

Hi Cynthia,

Just checked your portfolio updates and have a couple of suggestions...

1. Check for typos...for example, you dropped the 't' on a 'the' for one of the 'From the story...' texts.
2. Include a discrete URL on all of your images (not a major watermark plastered across the illustration) that you use consistently so that if an art director or editor saves an image to their computer, they will still have your URL and can contact you.

Hope that helps!  :yup

Thank you Tanja for taking a look. It's not quite set up as my other site is still up.  I took a look at your site and see how you've added your URL to your images . . . love your "Dreamwalking" illustration. Your suggestions a very helpful.

Just a couple things. I had a hard time reading the background information. The images did load slow. I read you source code and it looks like you are using a wix template. I want to say that your work is great! I do feel that this site works because navigation is really easy.

Thank you very much Jeff. You have a good point. I think I need to change the font color on the Background page. It sort of disappears.  :grin

Hi Cynthia!  The images took a moment to load on my computer (I'd say I have a middle-of-the-road internet connection) but nothing too painful.  The one thing that did make me pause - and this is really nitpicky, so please take it or leave it, however it strikes you! - was in your navigation bar, that "Background and Contact" are listed as one section but when you mouseover it brings up two different pages.  Is there a reason you didn't separate out "Background" and "Contact" in the navigation bar without needing to mouseover to get the dropdown links?  As I said, it's a really small thing, but it did make me hesitate and go, "Hm, that's interesting ..."

I have to say, though, how much I LOVE your illustrations, especially the Pupparazzi!  :jump:

Hi Victoria,

Y'know, I facilitated a workshop once and told the participants, if it bothers you in the slightest, it will stick out like a sore thumb to an Art Director. I guess the same holds true for websites. :yup

Thank you for taking a look. I'll be refreshing that this weekend!

And thank you for the compliment. I used the Pupparazzi for one of my mailers. It's tricky trying  to determine which one people will connect with the most.
