Just finished latest revision
« on: August 26, 2012, 10:41 AM »
Phew! Happy that I just finished what is hopefully my last revision for my latest picture book project. I am happy because I currently have umpteen manuscripts in various states of revision and I didn't think I'd finish any of them any time soon. But BAM, the ending finally came to me this morning and I got'r'done!

What's also cool is that I witnessed a Twitter conversation between an editor and a few other writers on the same subject just recently. So I think this editor might be a perfect candidate for this submission (if my agent agrees it;s ready to send out). Gotta love following editors on social media--it can be so insightful!

Whatcha got brewing with your manuscripts?

I am in the trenches with another manuscript! It's nice to be there because any day can bring good news. (I try not to think about the potential bad news...)

Amy, she liked it, but felt it maybe needed something else. So we discussed it, I called some friends, and I've now got the direction I need.

And my kids are both in school FULL TIME for the FIRST TIME EVER!!! So I have the entire day free. I've been DREAMING of this day for YEARS!!!

But...

I am afraid to crack open the manuscript! UGH. This happens sometimes. I am afraid I won't get the revision right and screw up the story. I can't be the only one who feels this way, right?

Definitely not - you're in great company, Tara!  What's more, you have been steered toward a refreshing, new path and your Blueboard cheerleaders are rooting you on, too!

You go, girl!!

Hey Tara. So glad to hear that another TL masterpiece is on its way. I've got about a gazillion+ WIPs at various stages of completion right now. You've motivated me to finish one up, revise it solid and send it on.

Tara, I'm in the same spot -- all four kids in school all day, every day, for the first time EVER! Wheeeeeeee!

Also, yes. Revisions are so intimidating! But, that's the beauty of computers -- make a new file, chop away, screw it up till it's unrecognizable, and you still have the original file to cuddle with. (Or, more likely in your case, chop away and re-create something FANTASTIC! But chopping is good, even when it's terrifying....)

I've got three PB's I'm working on, and I love them all. BUT, there's one something in each one that bugs me, and I havne't figured out how to fix each of their somethings just yet, so I'm waiting...waiting...waiting for that spark of something that lets me fix them  :grin

Hi, Tara! I'm in the trenches with two picture books while continually revising a third. I thought this last one was finished, but after hearing about the X-factor that agents seem to be searching for, I'm not so sure.

Congrats on your last revision!

Lots of luck with that editor:)  :crossedfingers

What X-factor? Not Simon Cowell! Picture books should NEVER FEATURE SIMON.

LOL, seriously, do tell.

well, there go all MY hopes of publication...  :turnblue

I have a ton of PB mss in different stages of development...but I also illustrate, so even when it's done...it's not done. they are never done. :sigh

Artemesia, I don't know how you illustrators do both jobs. It's amazing. But I realize it takes such a long time!

It helps to be just a little crazy. And if you're not, you will be. You will be... :yoda

I have always said you have to be a little bit crazy to be a kidlit author.

:crazy

Didn't stop to think that should be doubled for an author-illustrator! LOL
