Thanks for posting Shelliep. I just asked Steve what kind of "being published" makes one ineligible for the grant. I assume only traditional publishing, but there's also work-for-hire and self-publishing to consider.

I'll share what I know when I find out.

Hi Vijaya—we are mostly talking about something published in book form for children=best, Steve

My question:

From the description of who is eligible though, I would not qualify because I am published. However, I know in the past that in some contests there is a distinction between traditionally published, self- published, and published via work-for-hire.

I wanted to know that when you say published, do you mean all manner of making your work public?
*******

So it's pretty clear that all published book authors are not eligible. Really nice to have an award for up-and-coming new voices that aren't repped very much in the US.

I have been trying to look for the announcement of the winner, which was supposed to have happened yesterday, but I haven't found anything. Does anyone know more about this? I do realize that December 15th fell on a Saturday.

I've been looking for the announcement too. Seems odd that that the announcement date would be on a Saturday in the first place. Perhaps they meant January i5th or perhaps they're having a heck of a time deciding between the overwhelming submission of excellent entries.
