Help---I messed up my scrivener program!
« on: August 04, 2012, 12:14 PM »
:oi I'm trying to master this thing, in the course of which I've:

1) Lost Step 3 in the tutorial. The line-up skips to 4. What happened to 3, and how can I get it back? I want my "Footer View"! :cry2

2) Added something called "Untitled" after step 4, which is entirely blank.

3) Misplaced the contents of step five, "Edit Scrivenings"---the screen is blank. :sigh

Please, Someone,  :help

Hmmm. I'm no Scrivener expert, but I bet you can't permanently damage the interactive tutorial, just temporarily change it.

Try closing the program and then starting it again. Then, in the binder column, do what you have to in order to get back to the 'Start Here' line at the top, select and click on that. ]

Or, you might have to try something completely different....

Ha! Snort! Coffee in my nose---didn't see that coming, AnneB. But it makes as much sense to me as anything else. :duh

Did you find Step 3? I am just starting to learn Scrivener, too, and have just gone through that tutorial.  Man, it's long.  I think you actually can change it, since it's just a Scrivener document.  Don't worry about making empty files, though. You can just drag those down to the trash. In fact, you might check to see if you moved step 3 to the trash by accident.

The comment Maybelle is referring to is was one I deleted probably as she was reading it! I'd said the trouble with Scrivener "might be a cockroach in your system."

I knew she'd get the joke (the MC character in her picture book series is a cockroach named Maybelle) but then started to worry that it might sound offbase to other posters, and then began to worry that I was misremembering her MC's identity. It has been a long week and I think should just go lie down in a dark room with a cool cloth on my forehead and chill...

Scoot over and make room for me.

Don't ask me how, but I found step 3 and the content for step 5! :hairdude

For anyone having problems with Scrivener, I suggest a stiff drink. Worked for me.

Oh, glad it worked out!

And, FWIW, I thought Anne's cockroach comment (though I never actually saw it) was hilarious. Sad you deleted it, Anne!

Now, back to the drink -- anything in particular? I mean, is Scrivener a Scotch kind of program? Bourbon? Or will a glass of chardonnay suffice?  :drinking

I'm embarrassed to admit it on a forum such as this, but I had a Whiskey Sour followed by a glass of Chardonnay. Whether it was that particular combination, or just the combined effect, I couldn't say. :grin

*remembers how delicious whiskey sours are*

:hahaha   I downloaded scrivener a couple of weeks ago. I like the corkboard a lot. I can't help with the tutorial; it confused the daylights out of me. I've been proceeding by trial and error. Maybelle's solution sounds pretty good, honestly!

Whiskey sours are still around? Next thing you know someone will be referencing a Singapore Sling!

My very hip New York cousin tells me that the "classic cocktails" are totally back in now. (He was drinking sidecars on my last visit.) I only had a cup of tea after finishing my Scrivener tutorial but I *wish* now I'd had a whiskey sour--they were always my favorite but I haven't had one in years.

I've now started writing my novel on Scrivener after transferring my files. I'm loving it!

There's a bar in town that does only classic cocktails... I haven't been, but after this reminder, I just might have to! :martini

Julia, I could take the train down and ... oh wait. You're not in Chicago, are you? That's just where you set your novels. Now you live in the city that shares a name with one in an adjoining states, but I forget if you're in the Illinois one (easy to get to) or the Indiana one (much longer drive for me, especially after coupla shiskey wours). {sighs}

The title of this thread should be "Help-I messed up my Scrivener program but cocktails solved all the problems!"

AnneB - it's the Indiana one. There's Minnesota, Illinois, and Indiana! But - maybe someday we'll make it happen! :martini :martini
