How to be a graceful Qwitter
« on: July 30, 2012, 08:08 PM »
So, after months of having an author presence on Twitter, I've decided (for numerous reasons) that it's just not for me.

My question is this...How do I bow out gracefully?

I've a modest following of 250ish people. Do I announce that I'm dropping it and point them to my other web presences (site and FB), or do I just delete the account and be gone?

Have any of you done this?

I haven't quit twitter - but I rarely tweet or even go there any more. I doubt it's made any difference. Although I do still pick up new followers ( :werd )

I don't think you should say anything. Either delete  or just leave it inactive -- at some point, there may be something  you DO want to say or follow.

If you announce you're leaving, people might think there was some kind inciting incident, or maybe take it personally, like you don't want to associate with them. You never know!

I would let it go quietly inactive. That happens all the time with people I follow. And if your Twitter account is your name or a variant of your name, it's good to keep the account so no one else can claim it and start using it.

Agree - let it go quietly inactive - but perhaps DO change your "bio" or whatever to say something like "May not be tweeting much - please check out my website, *link*" or something. So if people are trying to find out more about you or get in touch, they'll be able to easily.
