Because of all of your stellar recommendations, I've been reading like a crazy woman for the past 10 days! I'll be doing a Top 10 post on the Nerdy Book Club blog on August 25 recommending 10 middle grade books that reflect that immigration experience in the US, and I hope they'll invite me back to do a similar list for YA.

In the meantime, I've decided to feature these books on my own book review blog for teachers and librarians, and I've put the first one up today. http://bibliolinks.wordpress.com/2012/08/07/lowji-discovers-america-by-candace-fleming/

Thanks again for the recommendations, and if anyone can think of any more titles, I'd love to hear them!

This is a new project about books exploring the immigrant experience (my book is actually about the pre-immigrant experience, but nice to be included).
2013, The Power of Harmony; A Superhero Named Blob
2010, A Hare in the Elephant's Trunk
2005, Rainbows in the Dark

(Blush) Natalie, can I suggest one of my own, published by North Dakota Institute of Regional Studies (NDSU)? Tori and the Sleigh of Midnight Blue
North Dakota Institute of Regional Studies
 softcover. ISBN  978-0-911042-61-0
 Ages 8-12
Eleven-year-old Tori and her family are struggling with the Great Depression in North Dakota, and the death of her beloved Papa has been the severest blow of all. To aspiring writer Tori, everything is changing for the worse—her friends are acting too grown-up, and her little brother Otto invades her privacy. When a Norwegian bachelor-farmer begins courting Mama, Tori writes in her journal that her life will be ruined. What will Tori discover about forgiveness and acceptance as she tries to keep her life from changing?
If not, I understand!
Aloha,
Tori :palmtree

Thanks, MysteryRobin!

jancoates, that's a great resource, and I'm honored to have my book included there, too! Kirsten Cappy is one of the co-founders, and she's such a lovely person. We have a large Sudanese population at my school, so this definitely looks like a good title to add.

Tori, no need to blush! I'll add it to the list and will definitely have to check this one out!
