How much do you bug your MG-age kid?

<< < (2/5) > >>

MysteryRobin:
Well, my 11 year old has really curly hair that you can't really *brush* and she's pretty clean. So I don't bug her about that. I do make sure her outfit is appropriate to the event - she's modest, but sometimes it's not dressy enough or not warm enough, or that sort of thing. I do bug her about table manners, constantly. And I don't think "brush your hair" or "change your shirt" would stick out as strict to me at all. It would just have to fit the kid. You know? Some 11 year olds are going to be really into making sure they look perfect. And some are going to be absent minded and not notice the way they look on their way out the door so Mom has to prompt them...

Sully:
I must carefully pick my battles with my 10 year old or we would never get out of the house.
I stick with the, "Did you brush your teeth yet?" but the rest of it's left up to her at this point. Anyways, she always looks more pulled together than I do! The stylish gene skipped my generation.

You've described my 2 daughters here! My 11 yr. old is always primping, fixing the hair, and getting that last second look in the mirror. My 12 yr old is a totally different story. On our way to the library this morning, I noticed the messy hair and commented on it. Her response, "What's the big deal, Mom? We're only going to the library."

TracyH:
I am just now looking at my 11yo wearing a bright pink flowered shirt and orange skirt and wondering if I should suggest jean shorts. So yeah, happens alot.

Karen Bly:
I have an absent-minded 10 year old boy and I have to give him a once over before he leaves the house. He's used to it and usually fixes the problem pretty quickly; i.e. shirt on inside out or backwards, forgot backpack, hair sticking straight up in back, glasses dirty to the point they are nearly opaque, etc.
