Thanks MysteryRobin and Olmue - I hate feeling like this! Total weirdness but I'll pesevere with The Hobbit (I loved it when I was 12) and keep scanning the shelves. I work in a bookstore so maybe I'm spoiled for choice

The last MG's that I loved were OKAY FOR NOW by Gary Schmidt, THE GRAVEYARD BOOK by Neil Gaiman, ALIENS ON VACATION by Clete Barrett Smith, and AL CAPONE SHINES MY SHOES by Gennifer Choldenko.

I did enjoy The Mark of Athena (Rick Riordan's latest), even though it ended in a cliffhanger. I miss the days of just being inside Percy's head, although I like all the different characters. Still, it made enough of an impact on me that while I was sitting at an intersection today and noticed the bank on the corner (Chase bank), the first thing I thought was, oh, how nice! Look, Annabeth has a chain of banks, and one of them is right here.

Obviously I spend too much time in the book world...

I've definitely been in reading slumps myself. I was in one recently and then I read WONDER by R.J. Palacio and it broke me out of the slump for some reason.

(Pippa, Gary Scmidt has a new book out in case that's of interest to you since you liked his last. It sounds totally different than OKAY FOR NOW plot-wise though. I think it's called IT CAME FROM THE STARS.)

I just finished Rebecca Stead's LIAR AND SPY. Very nice! And I finally got my hands on John Green's THE FAULT IN OUR STARS. Yes, it is as WOW as you've heard.

I just finished It Came From the Stars by Gary D. Schmidt. I love his work but I didn't love this book. It was well written but it wasn't my cup of tea. He was able to make me feel for the characters so it could be that I was not in the right mood for the book at this time. I may read it again in the future to see if I react differently. He made up a lot of words for objects and people and I think that slowed the book down for me.

Just finished listening to an excellent audio rendition of An Na's Wait for Me, which I liked more for its insights into the immigrant experience than for the cross-cultural romance, but then again, I'm not a 15-year-old girl. She won a Printz in 2002 for A Step from Heaven. Almost done with Hilary Mantel's Booker winner Wolf Hall, which is astounding. It's the story of Thomas Cromwell, who rose from poverty to chief advisor to Henry VIII in the early 1500s. She received a second Booker yesterday for the sequel.

I'm reading, Barnaby Grimes: Curse of the Night Wolf By Paul Stewart & Chris Riddell. MG Fantasy
Yesterday, it called out to me from a library book shelf. I've really enjoyed it so far. They have definitely pulled me into the world of a Tick-tock boy.

Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society This is a very interesting read, and some of the language is so beautiful in it. Unfortunately, the author died before she completed the book and it was up to her niece to try to piece together the rest of it and see it to publication.

I just finished CODE NAME VERITY by Elizabeth Wein. I went in with incredibly high expectations....and was still blown away. Wow.

I'm midway through the Crimson Crown, the fourth book in the Seven Realms series by Cinda Williams Chima. As I expected, it's wonderful!

I just finished Geeks, Girls, and Secret Identities by Mike Jung (who I see is on the blueboards)
I loved it- highly recommended. It's a clever spin on the tried and true stories and set-ups of comic books. Would be a fantastic animated film. I recommended it to our local Guys Read club.
Mike- if you see this- I want to learn more about Hummingbird!

Also just finished A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court by M Twain. It was a tough read in parts. Long on rants, more gore and war than I expected. I prefer the more humorous Roughing It.

). I'm enjoying it very much. Also reading Prisoners in the Palace.

I'm reading Girl Parts by John Cusick (who's an agent and author) and The Diviners by Libba Bray. I usually only read one book at a time, but I can't read The Diviners at night. Too scary.

I've been forced (in a most enjoyable manner) to read several books at once. I am enjoying them all so much that I can't pick one to read each night, so they have to take turns!

Geeks, Girls and Secret Identities by Mike Jung is one; The Brilliant Fall of Gianna Z by Kate Messner is another; and The Year of the Rat by Grace Lin.

Love having so many yummy books to feast on each night.

Just finished The Perks of Being a Wallflower and feel as though I've been punched. I should have read this book as a teenager. Now I'm waffling between whether to read The Maze Runner or The Knife of Never Letting Go.

I read and LOVED Dodger by Terry Pratchett.
I'm also reading Alexander McCall Smith's 44 Scotland Street series, which are very clever and funny adult books but have the most fascinating 6-year-old character, Bertie, a prodigy who is starting to rebel against his overbearing mother.

Just finished The Long Earth, by Terry Pratchett and Stephen Baxter. It was long on worldbuilding and philosophy and shorter on plot. Now reading Kirsten White's last Paranormlacy book. I have a stack of books on my shelf that just keeps growing because all my library holds are coming in just in time for Nano. Figures!

I can't wait to read The Raven Boys. I'm throwing out wild hints that it would make a fabulous birthday or Christmas present for me. If I can wait that long...

Just finished Rae Carson's Crown of Embers. I'm so glad fantasy seems to be making a comeback in YA! And somehow I thought it was a sequel but not a middle book, but behold, when I come to the end, I see there is a whole nother book waiting for me. (Well, figuratively. I have to wait a year or whatever.) In any case, it was a strong story in itself and didn't suffer from the saggy middle book syndrome at all.

I just read ANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS by Stephanie Perkins. it was great! Now I'm reading her next book, LOLA AND THE BOY NEXT DOOR. If you're looking for fun, happy, smart and well-written YA romance, read them!

Finished The Maze Runner, which was excellent. I'm going to dash out to buy the other two in the trilogy today. In the interim, I've started Laini Taylor's new release, Days of Blood and Starlight, and enjoying her writing style as ever.
