If you've never read a Chicken House book you should, they're fantastic. They're running a contest this year too. It's only open to UK residents, though. (And before you complain that you're not a UK resident, almost every single other kidlit-related thing is in North America so don't feel too bad!)

Carole, I often enter stuff over at Miss Snark's First Victim - misssnarksfirstvictim.blogspot.com
I've 'won' things like an invite to submit to an otherwise-closed to queries agency and I get great feedback on anything I enter too.

But yeah it sucks when you can't enter contests!
