Truck Bedtime Drawing Contest

<< < (3/4) > >>

SYoon:
Hi again! You might get another entry from my other son. Interestingly enough, he wants to copy one of my trucks from my CONSTRUCTION TRUCKS book! (it's a lift-flap with stickers, out of print). But I thought it was funny that he's using one of my truck books to win your truck book!

I've been full of advice lately! (avoiding my own work, I think!)

Your question makes sense. I think it's totally fine to do a bunch of things at once as long as it's not continuously to the same group of people. Goodreads is one group. Doing a blog giveaway is entirely another. I did an interview blog and giveaway (with our very own Tara Lazar) right before the other giveaway. Then a few people reviewed the book on their blogs (like JennaWren, after she won my book on a giveaway I did on the boards). Lots of kind people shared on FB and tweeted about the giveaway after that. You can also ask your PR person (or your editor, who'll pass on to the PR person) to help. In my case, my publisher did their own giveaways where I wasn't involved at all. I have no idea if these things help, but it was nice to get the book out there all at once, hoping it'll catch on while it's fresh!

Sure,... you can always do another giveaway at another time, too! But your launch month is a pretty good month to do a lot of things.

Since you have a great reading book, you can also offer to do some readings at bookstores during scheduled storytimes. That would definitely help raise awareness (and likely sales). Indie bookstores are the kindest booksellers on earth. Be good to them. Go find them. Perhaps offer to do readings at storytime or other event, and they will hand sell your book. Oodles more than chain stores. B&N does not "hand sell." One very tiny indie-store asked me to do a signing for one of my recent releases. They purchased a tall stack of about 50 books. B&N usually carries about 3-4 titles each. Love your indies, they will love you back. That's all I have for now!

Best of luck, Brianna!

Brianna:
Thanks soooo much for the advice, Salina! I really appreciate it!  (Now that publication day is so very close, I suddenly have a million questions that never occurred to me before.)

So excited that your other son may enter the contest also! Fantastic that he wants to use one of your truck books as a model! Looking forward to see what he draws!

And yes, I definitely must get out there to do some story times.  Indies are definitely wonderful! I got to speak at Mockingbird Books in Seattle as part of Western Washington SCBWI's awesome "Inside Story" program and they were fantastic. Can't wait to visit again! And to get to know my other local Indies!  :)

Brianna:
Just wanted to remind people that the deadline for the Truck Bedtime Drawing Contest is May 20th.  Looking forward to seeing more fantastic entries!

 :thankyou

JennaWren:
Brianna, this is kind of an off-beat suggestion, but in my area (south of Boston) it seems that a lot of preschools do a "touch-a-truck" fundraising event (or they even do it as a field trip -- and my kids' preschool had a "truck week" where every day a different vehicle came and parked outside for the kids to check out)....you might reach out to these kinds of places (nursery/preschools/day cares) and see if you can do a reading/signing.

Sorry to hijack!

Brianna:
Thanks so much for the suggestion, Jenna! I am definitely thinking along those lines!  (We are huge fans of "touch a truck" days in our family!)  I am going to be doing a reading and/or signing at a Touch-a-Truck day sponsored by the Junior League of Seattle in June. And a local preschool just had me visit before their Truck Day. (Got to read DIGGERS to more than one hundred preschoolers that day. So much fun!  :))
