Curious if anyone met Stacey Barney. She is also an editorial genius :)

Great notes, Liz!  Thanks for sharing!

Great website, too!  How fun that you were a finalist for one of NPR's 3-minute-fiction contests!  I've entered that before -- I did the haunted house challenge with Michael Cunningham as judge.  Which one did you do?

Glad you found the notes useful. I am going to make another blog post on Saturday with further notes.

Sheri, I think I did the same one! Here is the story: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=130277941

I didn't get a chance to meet DL or SB, but I've heard great things about both.  A friend of mine has had SB as a mentor before, and she said her mentoring session was so helpful.

Best of luck with your upcoming books, amberlough and TracyH!  So exciting!  :)

Thanks, Sheri! I went to Rutgers a few years ago and it was a wonderful experience. Hope your mentor helped and that you will find much success!

Nice summary of the day, Elizabeth! Just a little clarification, as it wasn't clear from my speech...but I was accepted the first year I applied, in 2008, with an MG novel. It was in 2009 that I was rejected with THE MONSTORE, which was eventually bought by Aladdin/S&S less than a year later.

Just goes to show that the business is very subjective, and while getting into RUCCL is a great accomplishment, being rejected doesn't necessarily mean a thing.

Thanks for clarifying, Tara! I updated the entry. And thanks for sharing your rejection-turned-success story! Very encouraging  :thankyou
