Highlights 2012 contest
majanecka:
I'm going to assume that an online headline is fine too. Are we suppose to send the headline in with the story? I would agree with others that an historical headline is fine as they don't specify modern or current headline. I have my story ready, had a lot of fun writing it. I like humor a lot. I think these entries will be great fun to read.

I just read the guidelines. They do not say you can submit more than one, but maybe that'd be okay. The word count is 750 not 800 for older kids and 475 for younger ones. I think it'd be best to stick with exactly what they say. If you find a headline online, it should be one that has also appeared in a newspaper. That's my opinion, but I'm sure you could write to ask for clarification. My guess is that they get so many submissions, those that aren't exactly within the rules will be tossed.
These contests are great -- especially because you actually know when you will learn if you've won. There's none of that indefinite waiting and waiting and . . .

Thanks for posting this thread, Steph. :horse:
OMG! I actually have a manuscript that fits the contest guidelines. I didn't know what to do with it until now. Need to trim the word count, though.
majanecka:
Flurries Yes you can submit more than one story.
Best of luck everyone.

I have a question for those of you entering this contest. How "funny" are your stories? It's hard enough finding a kid-friendly news headline, but even then, the news stories tend to be more strange or bizarre, and not necessarily funny. I've tried sprinkling in some humor to the story I wrote, but it's not all-out comedy or anything. I'm wondering if I need more.
Thanks for your thoughts!
