I've finally, FINALLY got my head back into this manuscript. 2675 words so far today. I'm heading to the park for a long walk. I may get back into the manuscript later tonight. Feels good!

I'm working on a new WIP, and I've set a goal of around 1,500 words a day, so I thought I might jump into this thread for a little motivation. Today I wrote just over my goal. So far so good.

I hit my goal today--though I don't know how good it is. I kept sitting down for a few minutes while my kids were otherwise occupied. I'll read through it tomorrow. It may end up sounding terribly disjointed--like my day.

I wrote the first 1000 words of a novel that has been brewing in my head for a while now.  I usually have a problem with having too low of a word count, but I don't feel like that so far.  I wrote a thousand words and I haven't hit my first big trial yet! haha  Seriously, sometimes I have problems with plowing straight to the tension without getting to know my characters.

Anyways.  Yay!  Hope I can do it again tomorrow!

:yay Amanda Sue! Keep it up!

I managed around 1,800 today. I had to wait for the kids to go to bed to do most of it. Now, I'm going to bed myself. I have a couple of critiques to do, and it would be great if I could get some work done before the kids wake up.

Go ahead and post twice--you deserve it! I barely hit my 1500 words today, but I made it. And I really like how the story is shaping up so far.

You're on a roll AmandaSue and Michelle  :grin :grin for you both.

I've had house guests for the past three days and a cleaning frenzy day yesterday so I was feeling really down that I'd hadn't found time to write. I'm so happy that I was able to make up for it today. I wrote 2400 words on my YA. And what's more, this is a project I had shelved for almost a year because I wasn't loving it. Today I re-fell in love with my project. Fingers crossed as I move forward! :)

Good job Sunflower! I am working on my current project because I semi-fell out of love with my last project.  Hopefully I can go back to it later and love it again!

Wrote another thousand words today!  We are up to 4,000 today, and ok, I really do get to start the first big fight scene tomorrow.  Today he just realized what he is up against. Nothing like building tension, right?

Those scenes are fun, AmandaSue.

I managed 1600 words today, and introduced a pivotal character. Tomorrow, I have to write a difficult transition. I'm not really looking forward to it.

The finger's crossed icon seems to have disappeared, but here's a lucky  :clover1: Sunflower. Hope you continue to love it.

Thanks for the  :clover1: Michelle. Here's one for you.  :clover Congrats on adding a new pivotal character. I'm a few chapters away from introducing one as well. Way to go AmandaSue -- hope you get to your big fight scene today. My next scene is a training scene with a lot of action. I'm looking forward to writing it!

Today I managed 1575 words my YA. I am continuing to love it. I am hoping to coast with these feelings for awhile.  :star2  :star2  :star2 always seem to help!

Added another 1000 words today! Woohoo. My first novel I was worried about getting it high enough, and now I am worried about it being too long, and worried that I am not getting to actual action fast enough. But realizing there's a wolf nearby, then tailing him, then walking into the same room as him are all "action" right? I mean, it's definitely not backstory, and I, of course, feel it is all necessary. But my MC is just about to lift his axe. So that big fight scene is still coming? AAHHH I still love it, but maybe tomorrow someone will actually take the first blow.

In the meantime, keep loving your stories, and good job. I love this thread, because today I was thinking, "You gotta write Amanda, you need to post on the thousand words thread!"

I got a fifth of this target written yesterday. But it's Sunday tomorrow so I'll abandon the beasties and make a date with my monsters instead.  I do intend to get this story by the end of the year. :writing3 :voodoo
Lots of truffles on offer and I got some bar molds so they're on offer too. Enjoy. :chocolate: No bunnies...yet.

Update: I upped my total yesterday from 1575 to 2700 and today I managed 1440 words. Felt a little slow going today, but I'm trudging forward. I know I'll need to go back add add some details here and there, but so far I'm happy with all my characters. It won't be long now before I have to put some of my darlings in harms way...eek!  :ladder

AmandaSue, I wouldn't worry about story length or how long it is taking to get to the action at this point. You can go back and fix all that during revision. It is so much easier to cut and tighten a long manuscript than to expand a short one. Trust me, I've done both.

I wrote 1600 words today, and I'm beginning to worry that my readers will think I'm doing a bait-and-switch. It reads like a ghost story right now, but ghosts aren't the real explanation for what's happening.

Bahahaha! I wrote over 1300 words today, and the MC has finally killed the wolf. But not before finding out some disconcerting information, of course.

Hooray!

And Michelle, I think you are right. I'd rather cut than add. It sounds like you are pulling an M. Night Shaymalan! haha I love his work, so I'd probably love your story.

Squeezed out 1479 words today. I'm hoping to have the problem where I will need to cut. I usually write picture books so I'm hoping I can get my word count where I want it by the time I finish!

AmandaSue - It's funny you mention your MC just killed a wolf. My MC is just about to visit a wolf (shifter) for a serious heart to heart.

Michelle - Hmm...that does remind me a bit of M. Night Shaymalan. I love his stuff also. Here's hoping it turns out to be a good thing. At the very least it'll keep you're readers wondering, right?

Another chapter, another 1,000 words. Everything has changed for MC and now he gets sucked into a conspiracy within his clan. Yikes! Of course, I think tomorrow will simply be a celebration with his family for defeating the wolf, then on to the conspiracy! Mwahaha!

I got through 1750 words today--mostly transition stuff, but tomorrow my MC is going to school where she will finally meet the rest of the major characters, including the villain.

Another 1600 words. My MC didn't meet the villain yet, but she did meet the guy that kind of likes her...and the girl that likes him. I love middle grade as a writer much more than I ever liked it as a middle-grader.

I think I've always loved MG. I still love, love, love to read it! haha

Another 1000 words and a chapter down. MC was just beckoned to a secret meeting with clan officials for his act of bravery. *cue creepy music*

1600 words today. I normally write each chapter consecutively, but for some reason one of the last chapters came to me today. I'm going with it. I can always change it later.  :)

I love it when a chapter just comes to me like that.

I got in 1500 hard-earned words. The MC finally met the villain, and they have become friends. #borrows AmandaSue's creepy music#

1260 words today. Finally finished a chapter I was struggling with. MC has met the wolf, who's not the villain in this book, but will be in the next. Felt good to foreshadow future events. Next up -- flood scene, date scene, and fight scene. Looking forward to it.

Michelle - Congrats on having your character meet the villain. I know how hard it can be to introduce new characters once you're alright in a rhythm.

I wrote another 1,000 words that I know will need to be revised, but at least it is down on paper. I feel like I am not building up enough tension, but I don't know what to add at this point. Oh well, that is what revisions are for, right? Met the villain today, and you are right. It is hard. Tomorrow, the chief elder/villain informs my MC of the dastardly mission she wants hims to accomplish. Will he accept? Tune in! haha

I wrote 1000 words today on my main WIP. I also wrote 700 words for a first draft of a contest entry. I'm hoping after taking a little break I might be able to add a little more to my main WIP today. I'm so eager to finish it by summer's end.  :)

AmandaSue - I know what you mean about building tension. My MC knows of her quest and has had the main villain invade her thoughts, but hasn't actually met the villain yet. She will have a painful run in with one of his 'minions' soon. I hope there is enough tension being built up for the main conflict along with the love quadrangle, but honestly...I feel like I won't really know until it's fully written.

To Persevering :goldstar and moving forward.  :)

Well, only abut 900 words today, but I am counting it because it is a complete chapter. I'm sure through revisions I will bump that word count up to 1000. But the mission has been accepted (reluctantly) and now we get to build toward some confrontation. Woot!

2200 words today, bringing my total up to 20,000 -- woot! And in this last chapter the MC had her first kiss with her love interest. Will things work out? We'll see...dun dun dun...

Today, I broke my no outlining rule (read: tendency) and have nearly 2000 words written, and half of the book vaguely outlined. Still have no idea what I'm doing. Heh. And I thought outlining took away the suspense.

1100 words today and still going strong. I love how this story is just flowing out of me! The next parts all make sense and just seem to go in the direction I need and want them to. No wrestling. Yay! Well, today MC decided he is going to do the distasteful deed because it will help his brother. Uh-oh! :grin
