Jewish pb series?
« on: September 06, 2008, 05:42 PM »
Does anyone know of a Jewish-themed picture book series?  I've written two pbs with a Jewish theme with the same characters, and a third book is planned.  But I'd like to take a look at another series with a Jewish theme.

Yossi & Laibel is a series of Jewish-Themed picture books by Dina Rosenfeld.  It is published by Hachai.

Sammy the Spider, which I think is Kar-Ben -- Sammy has a book for every holiday, plus a couple others.

Author and illustrator Jane Breskin Zalben has a picture book "series" (meaning recurring characters, ie Rosie, Beni) with Jewish themes; titles off the top of my head and memory include HAPPY PASSOVER, ROSIE, HAPPY NEW YEAR, BENI, etc.

Hold on... Okay. Just checked Amazon and those two are published by Henry Holt. And there are more in the Zalben series so you may want to add these to your reading list.

Check out the PJ Library, http://www.pjlibrary.org.  Great subscription PB program for Jewish families!

This is a chapter book series, not a picture book one, but if you haven't read Sydney Taylor's All-of-a-Kind Family books, you should immediately. I still reread them to this day.

You might look into the Shofar imprint, a relatively new project at Marshall Cavendish.  In partnership with PJ Library.
