Pornographic Spam of Board
Anne Marie:
KL,
Thanks for stopping by. I really don't know how this can be combatted legally. I wouldn't even know how to begin. Quite a few of our spammers have .ru addresses so we obviously aren't going to be able to touch them.
Because your forum is meant for teens and preteens you might be able to use the COPPA laws to fight them, but I don't think we have that option as we are not a kids'/teens' site.
If you find anything out that would be helpful, let us know!

Here's my thought... someone must be responsible for fighting pornographic spam, so how can we make sure they get the funding they need? My guess is it's a matter of making people aware of how this type of activity undermines free speech by limiting what people can do on-line, and how it affects our kids, etc.
Somehow legislators managed to get the Do Not Call list up and running, so why not a Do Not Spam list?
Of course, I'm simplifying a complex situation, but I'd like to research this further... maybe learn the history of the Do Not Call list and find out if there's any sort of organization that officially addresses these problems. To tell you the truth, I think it would make a great article, but I'm not much of a researcher myself and don't know where to begin. Maybe there's a freelance writer out there looking for a story?
