I moved over the summer and just got my own computer with internet up and running a matter of minutes ago!! I've tried several times to log into this site from a public library here in the Netherlands (yes, we've moved to the Netherlands), and the site was being blocked by the public-decency censor! At least now I know why -- I was trying to imagine what kind of English word that would stop the site from being viewable in Dutch (the only one I could come up with is that "wife" (but it's spelled differently) in dutch means "bit#%" (you know, of the female dog variety)).

Hi Verla,
I was reading about the changes you've had to make to your forum (eliminating guest posting, etc.) and many of them are changes I've had to make to my forum and web site to try and banish spammers who post drug ads and porn. It makes my blood boil, especially since I get a lot of teens on my site. I've had to stop all guest posting, banish IP addresses, personally screen every person who registers for the forum, and STILL they log in with pornographic names so they can try and get that name to appear in the Newest Registered Users section. GRRR!
Out of curiosity, have you ever thought about doing anything proactive to fight spamming? It seems to me that posting porn and drug links, especially to sites where kids visit, (but hey, adults shouldn't have to deal with it either!) should be illegal and enforced. While I know that the technology involved in stopping these people is out of my realm of expertise I wonder if there's anything we could do to fight back? Any thoughts?
