I want to use IRC.

I don't know how to connect via the web.

new WARNING! Using Mirc prior to version 6.0? SEE THIS IMMEDIATELY!

I'm on AOL and can't get into the chat room.

I keep getting bumped out of the chat room.

NOTHING works!

Workshops Page Getting Bumped?

Some bumps are caused by faulty connections with your base provider. If you get knocked out of the chat room, and find you are also knocked off-line, this is probably your problem. These bumps are caused by your home provider, and are not due to any fault of the chat room connections. Talk to your provider to see if there is a way to make your connection more stable.

Most bumps are caused by server splits. Our chat room can be connected by people on many different "chat" servers. When the servers "split," which can happen fairly often, people on different servers often find themselves in "ghost" chat rooms which are rooms that "look" exactly like the room you were in, but all the people on other servers have disappeared (been bumped) from the room into another, identical room. In fact, it is very possible that YOU are the one who got "bumped," but you don't know it! We have eliminated many of the problems caused by these annoying splits by having everyone in the #Kidlit chat room sign on to the same server. If you are getting dumped due to splits, you can eliminate the problem by downloading and using IRC. Go to the Nuts & Bolts page of this website for instructions and to go to the download URL.

NOTICE:

You can only connnect to the #Kidlit chat room through this website if you are using Netscape 4.5 or higher, Internet 4.0 or higher, or AOL.

Other browsers might not work through this website.

1. You will see a blue box with a place to enter your Nick Name. Type in the chat name you wish to use.

2. Click the Connect Now button. (NOTICE! Hitting Return or Enter does NOT work.)

3. Wait for a minute and you will see a blue-bordered box. Be patient! This chat box can take several minutes to load. It might even be hidden behind another window...be sure to look for it, if you don't see it. You may also have to try more than once to get it to become "active." IMPORTANT: (It will NOT become active if you hit "return" or "enter" instead of the Connect button.) If you have done this, go back and try again, using the CONNECT NOW button this time. If the box comes up, but you are "not connected," click again on the "connect" box in the corner of the chat screen until you see yourself in the chat list on the right hand side of the box.

4. Once you are connected, you may immediately begin chatting by typing in the yellow box at the bottom of the screen and hitting return/enter.

5. To leave the chat room, close the chat window.

6. We hope you enjoyed your visit and that you will come back again soon.

HERE

NOTE: Please use this button only when the above buttons do not work. Thank you.

Or go to this URL: http://www.verlakay.com/chat/chat2.html
